CAAMS Delegation to America and Canada Successfully Fulfilled the Mission on the Agriculture and Agricultural Machinery Investigation

The two-week investigation mission to America & Canada on Agriculture and Agricultural Machinery, from September 5th to 18th, 2012, was successfully fulfilled by the business delegation organized by CAAMS, which was highly spoken of by the members of the delegation. They have gained a lot in the field of whole-course mechanization in rice, oranges and citrus production, with their business ideas enlightened and broadened.    

The members of the delegation are from the following units (organizations): Dept. of International Cooperation and Dept. of Enterprise Development of CAAMS, Dept. of S&T Development of China National Machinery Industry Corporation, Shenyang Academy of Instrumentation Science (SAIS), Hunan Agricultural Machinery Administration Bureau, Hunan Agricultural Machinery Supervision General Station, Hunan Hengyang Municipal Agricultural Machinery Bureau, Jiangxi Agricultural Machinery Supervision and Administration Station, Jiangxi Ganzhou Municipal Agricultural Machinery Bureau, Guangzhou Municipal Agricultural Machinery General Company, etc..

The business delegation to America and Canada visited and investigated  the International Scientific Cooperation Bureau of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and its subordinate company, Agricultural Environment Reproducible Technology Company, Agricultural Breeding Technology Demonstration Farm, the agricultural machinery distributer and maintenance factory of John Deere Company (USA) in Ontario, Davis (University of California) and its cooperation units - the Rice Production Farm (Montana Farm) in Yuba City, the agricultural machinery dealers in Larry County, the plantations of oranges and citrus, grapes, and nuts (olives, walnuts, almonds and pistachio nuts, etc) in Fresno County, California.

Jianqiang (Joe) Zhou, Deputy Director of International Scientific Cooperation Bureau of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) described us the basic situation of agriculture and agricultural machinery usage in Canada and showed us around AAFC’s subordinate Agricultural Environment Reproducible Technology Company. Dr. Om P. Dangi, the person in charge of this company introduced to us that the technology integrating agricultural machinery and agronomy needs considering from the breeding phrase and that the dwarfing of crops (except ensilage) can benefit the operation of agricultural machinery.

Mr. Jon Munger, General Manager of the Rice Production Farm in Yuba City (Montana Farm, a member of California Rice Farmers Association), described us the basic situation of the rice production in California. We learned that before harvesting with the rice combine harvesters (with GPS and flexible stalk-supporting devices) made by John Deere and Case Corporation and New Holland, they always employ the procedures of presoaking, airplane seeding and precise fertilization. After being cleaned, dried and stored, the rice will be measured, packed and sent to rice mills for milling and fine processing.   

Mr. Josfph Torrez, Deputy President of Glory Dynasty Group, made the arrangement, taking us around the plantations of oranges and citrus in Fresno County and introduced both the technologies of breeding, planting and grafting of oranges and citrus’s, and the technologies of maintaining and protecting of fruit trees. The leaders and experts from Hunan, Jiangxi and Guangdong showed great interest in technologies of breeding, planting and grafting of oranges and citrus,and a lot of technical questions asked by them were answered, which will play a great reference role in planning and carrying out the work in the future. The members of the mission all expressed that they benefited a lot from the worthwhile investigation indeed.  

When the visit came to the end, the two sides exchanged gifts, which laid the foundation for carrying out further cooperation and left us with good memories.
