President Li Shujun Attended the 31st FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific

During March 12th to 16th, the 31st FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific was held in Hanoi, Vietnam. Agriculture minister delegations from 38 nations and regions in Asia and the Pacific attended the summit. Chinese Government dispatched the delegation with the leader of Xiaohua Chen, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Agriculture. Meanwhile, more than 200 representatives from UN and the specialized agencies, observers from UN non-member countries, intergovernmental organizations and International Non-Governmental Organizations attended the conference. Li Shujun, President of CAAMS, was specially invited as the representative of International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR) and Asian Association for Agricultural Engineering (AAAE).  

The conference focused on discussion about the work FAO had done in coping with food security, restraining grain prices, aiding financially and supporting the development and living condition improvement of the poor (especially the vulnerable groups) and the achievement FAO had made in the past. Both FAO’s work program and budget for Asia and the Pacific in 2012-2015 and the key work in a period of time in the future were also discussed, in the expectation of speeding up the program of global food security and nutrition activities, concentrating superior resources, taking various measures to strengthen cooperations, optimizing the management of water resources and reducing adverse effects of climate changes.

During the conference, President Li Shujun had a talk with Mr. Oda Kazuyasu, Assistant Director-General of FAO, and emphatically introduced the general situation of CAAMS as well as some information related to the CIGR International Agricultural Engineering Conference to be held in Beijing in 2014.

During the stay in Vietnam, President Li Shujun specially spared some time to meet Mr. Vu Van Hau, Vice President of Vietnam GELEXIMCO and Mr. Le Quoc Tuan, Manager of Investment Dept. of Vietnam GELEXIMCO. Both sides had a deep communication on how to strengthen cooperation, carry out substantial business communications, realize capital operations, establish joint ventures and share management resources, etc. President Li Shujun also invited Mr. Vu Van Hau to pay a visit to CAAMS at the right time and have further talks about the cooperation between the two sides.   

In the same session, President Li Shujun visited Research Institute of Vietnam Agricultural Engineering and Post-harvest Technology and Association of Vietnam Agricultural Engineering, subsidiaries of Ministry of Agriculture of Vietnam. President Chu Van Thien and Director-general Nguyen Ngoc Khanh warmly received the delegation from our academy. During the meeting, President Chu Van Thien showed a warm welcome to President Li Shujun and introduced in detail the recent development and technical achievement of Research Institute of Vietnam Agricultural Engineering and Post-harvest Technology.    

President Li Shujun expressed gratitude for the warm reception and stated, “Research Institute of Vietnam Agricultural Engineering and Post-harvest Technology has been maintaining good cooperative relationship with CAAMS and has sent delegations to visit us for technical exchanges many times. Association of Vietnam Agricultural Engineering also keeps continuous contact with Chinese Society for Agricultural Machinery. After years of development, CAAMS has become a large enterprise of science and technology, integrating scientific research, technical development, industrial manufacture, production and sales, consultation and design, exploration and construction, as well as information media. We expect both sides to keep strengthening cooperations and we are looking forward to your support for the CIGR International Agricultural Engineering Conference to be held in 2014.” 

President Li Shujun’s trip to Vietnam is the important step taken to further develop the market in south-east Asia and to implement and realize the strategy for SINOMACH agriculture moving towards the world. The trip also puts forward higher requests for CAAMS MAE & PFMC’s accelerating high-end of manufacturing, localization of industrial products, internationalization of service functions and systematization of solutions.
