Solar Drying Technical Equipment National and Local United Engineering Laboratory

  The Solar Drying Technical Equipment National and Local United Engineering Laboratory (herein refer as “the Laboratory”) was formed on November 4th, 2009 after approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (DRHT[2009]No. 2815) with three years  construction period (2009.11-2012.10). The Laboratory is governed by the Science and Technology Department of Inner Mongolia, and is affiliated to the Hohhot Branch of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences (CAAMS).

  1. Construction

  The total area of the laboratory consists of 1,200m2 new construction and 1,000m2 remodeling of the original facilities. Besides existing equipment, six new laboratories will be constructed to form new platforms for research, technology innovation and experimentation in the fields of drying characteristics and technology for agricultural products, solar energy collectors, multi-function complementary drying devices, high efficient thermal storage devices, solar drying devices for agricultural products, and integrated technology of solar drying. A public testing platforms and personnel training systems will also be developed. The new platforms will combine the integrated technology inspection systems with the research of solar energy drying for stems and leaves, and with that for roots and fruits respectively, to achieve the load capacity of ≥50kg and for drying experiment and drying capacity of ≥500kg/h for integrated technology inspection.

  2. Achievements

  ·         Research and experiment on drying characteristics and technology

  “Test bench for solar drying characteristics of forage”, which can conduct drying experiment for both thin layers and bundles.

  ·         Research and experiment on different types of solar energy collectors

  “Test bench for solar air heater”, which can conduct experiment on how the key component of the solar energy drying device - flat air heater affect the thermal characteristics of the heater.

  ·         Research and experiment on high-efficient thermal storage devices

  With the breakthroughs in the key technology and devices for solar heat-exchange water tanks and solar phase-variable heat storage unit, the laboratory has developed the solar heat drying device with heat pump. The 9HZ-0.2 solar drying devices for forage seed is at the international advanced level.

  ·         Solar facilities for pastoral areas

  The laboratory has successfully developed the National leading modularized solar barns for medium – scale animal husbandry in the pastoral areas.

  ·         Patents

  A total of 21 patents including six invention patents have been filed in the area of solar energy, and 12 of them have been granted, including two invention patents.
