Expert introduction

Chief Expert--Yan, Chuliang

Prof. Yan, Chuliang was born in 1947, and received his Ph.D. degree in engineering from Beihang University. He is a doctoral supervisor, and is granted with the government special allowance of the State Council since 1992. He holds the position as the Director of the Institute of Aircraft Strength, the Chief Expert and the Deputy Chief Engineer of CAAMS, and the Deputy Director of Opening Laboratory of National Machinery Industry Structure Safety and Reliability. He is also on the expert panel of the Air Force Reliability Engineering, and is served as the adjunct professor of five universities including Beihang University of and Jilin University. Prior to join CAAMS, he was the Chief Scientist of the United Nations Asian and Pacific Centre for Agricultural Engineering and Machinery (UN-APCAEM) and was on the Scientific Committee of CIGR 2004 International Conference and the International Conference on Advances in Product Development and Reliability (PDR'2008). He was also the Chairman of Fatigue Committee of Chinese Society for Metals, and the President of the Second National Digital Design and Manufacturing Conference.

He has engaged in basic scientific researches on structural fatigue and reliability for more than 30 years, and has achieved creative results in the field of aircraft structure life reliability research. He initiated the field of initiative reliability design of aircraft structure predicted life, and established the principles of median load spectrum for aircraft with high degree of confidence and experimental theory and methods of multi-point co-calibration for aircraft full-size structure. He assumed more than 30 key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation including the initiative reliability design of aircraft structure predicted life, and presided over the completion of more than 10 load spectrum measurement projects for national key aircraft models. He received two Second Prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Awards, seven First Prizes and four Second Prizes of Ministerial Achievement Awards. He has filed more than 20 invention patents, published more than 130 papers and five professional literatures, including 30 confidential technology works, and cultivated 32 PhDs and Masters. His other honors and awards include the Top 100 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Winner, the title of Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker in 2001, the Agricultural Machinery Development Contribution Award in 2002, the Top 100 Outstanding Professionals of Beijing in 2003, the Aviation Technology and Equipment Contributions Award in 2005, and the Invention and Entrepreneurship Award in 2006.
